FRANKFORT GERMANY - July 28, 1994 bandits struck Frankfort's Schirn Kunsthalle Gallery. The thieves took three paintings (all on loan), worth an estimated $44,000,000.
Recovered - Fredrich, German 1774-1840 Nebelschwaden
Recovered - Turner, English 1775-1851 Light & Color
Recovered - Turner, English 1775-1851 Shade & Darkness
UPDATE: Feb. 1999
German officials have sentenced several people for this theft. However, the paintings have not been recovered; and are still considered to be stolen property. If you have any information about this case please contact the appropriate officials.

Both paintings by JWM Turner have been recovered. As of this writing the painting by Caspar David Fredrich remains missing. For a story about this recovery see the BBC.
