This is an index of theft and forgery information, listing master artists  whose record works have sold for a million dollars (US) or more.  We are seeking information about these artists & cases.

Artist's Name:
We alphabetically list artist names along with their (birth - death) years and associated country
.  A useful tool for researching artist information is the Getty Trust's Union List of Artists.

Record Price: 
This represents the highest price at sale or auction for an artists artwork.  Many sources were consulted including ArtNet
, ArtCult IndexSK Creation, Ask Art (American Prices). Other URL's consulted included many reviews of major auctions, as well as on-line information presented by the auction houses Christies and Sotheby's.  Also,  Findartnfo.com is a very good free source of price information.

To narrow the focus of this index, we list artists whose record priced works have commanded a million dollars
(US) or more.  This index includes "million dollar artists" for whom we can't find art crime records or note only recovered pieces in our files.  Any help in further developing the accuracy of these records would be greatly appreciated.

Biography & Images: 
John Malyon's Artcyclopedia
is an excellent internet resource.  When possible, we provide links to that site's artist specific pages.  This is a very good art history resource.

Museum / Expert URL: 
When possible we provide links to a museum and (or) authority on the artist.

Catalogue Raisonné (French):
"A systematic and comprehensive annotated listing of all works of a creator in a particular medium or all media. Provides essential information by which individual works are identified."

When possible, we provide a link to or citation for the artists catalogue raisonné.  Not all catalogues are equally well compiled. The authorities reviewing this quandary are with the International Foundation for Art Research ( IFAR
).

Forgery Information:
These are notes identifying  known forgers and links (URL's) mentioning the forgery of an artists works.  For further information on this topic see the Museum Security Network's bibliography on Art Forgery

Stolen Art Files:
We list some NOT ALL missing works by these artists.  When possible we list titles or descriptions of  an artist's stolen artworks.  Internet citations (leading to pictures of missing artworks) are offered whenever possible.  Searches and other forms of internet navigation may be required, as we link to a variety of web-sites that publish stolen art
